In addition to having excellent technical parameters, professional equipment should be durable and resistant to various factors hazardous to its proper operation, even if this is provided at the cost of its appearance, technological advancement or price. The first serious test for the Sony DSLR A900 as a reportage and sport photography tool was a golf tournament in sunny Spain where it survived pouring rain, however the real test came in Argentina and Chile during the Dakar Rally.

Another factor that annoyed me during the shooting at the Dakar Rally was the temperature and more precisely - the temperature changes. In the middle of the summer, close to the tropic, the sun is almost in zenith, resulting in a scorching temperature of around 40 degrees centigrade. Even more on the Atacama desert. On the other hand, in the Andes, above 4000 meters, the temperature fell below zero. The worst, however, was the temperatures inside the car during stops we made in open sun. I believe that it hurt me and my passengers the most. Somehow, the camera remained unaffected. I remember my old camera, where the display simply changed colors in hot African sun. The Sony DSLR A900 worked and what is important, it registered images without any negative effects, without increased noise, changes in exposure or batteries discharging faster. In fact, I have nothing to say here. It was normal and it was good.
